“Art and Peace” International Academic Symposium Held in Beijing Diaoyutai

The “Art and Peace” International Academic Symposium was held in Diaoyutai, Beijing on January 17th. Former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Simayi Aimati, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of the NPC Li Zhaoxing, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Chen Haosu, former Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia Prince Norodom Sirivudh and others attended the symposium.

The former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Zhang Deguang addressed the Symposium, and announced the establishment of the tenth center under the China Foundation for International Studies - the Foreign Exchange and Cooperation Center. He said: “The progress and development of art is an important aspect of social development. This Symposium embodies the artist's commitment to the society as well as their inheritance and promotion of national cultural traditions and national spirit. It is also a concrete action to defend world peace. This Symposium not only provides a good platform for academic exchanges between Chinese and foreign artists, but also promotes the construction of a harmonious society and a harmonious world, providing practical experience for Chinese culture and art to go global. ”

Participants of officials as well as Chinese and foreign artists made wonderful speeches and had heated discussion on the topics including art and peace, art and national spirit, art and harmonious society, art symbols and modern art, Chinese art education as well as diverse civilizations and harmonious world. During the Symposium, more than 70 extraordinary Chinese and Western paintings were exhibited, and certificates were conferred to the “Specially-invited Artists”, “Outstanding Realism Artists”, and “2009 Strategic Partners” of the China Foundation for International Studies.
