Chevalier Medal for Oriental Art is established by partial members of the Belgian Parliament and people from all circles to honor Ferdinand Verbiest, a Belgian scientist, philosopher and astronomer who lived in China more than 300 years ago. With the aim to promote the cooperation between the East and the West, this award is conferred to low-profile yet capable people who have outstanding achievements in several fields of art and science as well as in the exchanges between the East and the West.
