Fan Yang was born in 1955, whose ancestral home is in Nantong, Jiangsu. He joined the Nantong Institute of Crafts and Arts in 1972. He used to be the Dean, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University. He currently serves as the Vice President of Chinese Painting Department of the China National Academy of Painting, and the Director of the Teaching and Research Section of the Chinese National Academy of Arts. He has the title of Outstanding Expert of the Ministry of Culture, and enjoys special allowances of the State Council.
He specializes both in depicting features and atmosphere. The series paintings of “Tang Ren Shi Yi” (Poetic Tang Dynasty) are traditional Chinese realistic painting with enriched colors, whose colors were delicate, gentle and temperate. His landscape paintings were pure, with profound style. Occasionally he also paints flowers and birds, which were fresh and elegant, even surpassed the predecessors. His representative work of figure painting “Zhi Qian” won the bronze medal of the Sixth National Art Exhibition, and was collected by the National Art Museum.
